Our CEO had sold a client a highly gfx-laden layout at a presentation. After templates had been produced and the client had filled them with textual content, they complained that the pages load too slowly.
Me: "That is possible, all textual content plus HTML and graphics combined makes each page about 100 K."
Client: "But you said those pages would be under 30 K at the presentation."
Our CEO: "No, I said '130 K'."
(Notably, "130 K" and "under 30 K" sound very much alike in German...)
Client: "Well, we have to get the page size below 25 K. Our competition has pages with 25 K."
(Not only was the page he showed me to "prove" this more than 150 K, it also looked like crap.)
Me: "But your product description alone is like 30 K text."
Client (furiously): "I don't care if we put this website up in plain ASCII text, but the size has to go down!"
