Client calls in a panic
Client: I can't connect this machine to the server, it doesn't see the network. I've put in static IP info and it still doesn't see the server/router.
Me: Did you change anything over the weekend?
Client: No. Well I did move the server. But the other 8 machines can connect, this is the only one with a problem. Can I just install Windows XP to fix this?
Me: Well, lets try a few other things first.
(Banging head with suggestion after suggestion...problem still not fixed).
Client: I'm going to install WinXP and that'll fix it.
(3 hours go by....Client calls me in to 'fix' the problem)
Me: Did you unplug anything? Move anything else?
Client: No, nothing.
Low and behold....what is this dangling cable? Oh, the client decided to unplug this machine from the switch. Plug that sucker in and voila, the machine sees the network again.
Nothing like having a client that fancies himself a network expert LOL
