After a customer of mine purchased a new Compaq package (SATA HDD) at a local Appliance store - he was told by one of their staff that he would benefit from upgrading to Win XP Pro (Had XP Home on it). I assured him that the extra features were NOT necessary - however I would upgrade it next time I was in. First visit I transferred his info off an older machine onto the new one and told them to get used to XP Home first. About 11pm that night I get a distressed call from the owner saying his wife had installed XP Pro Upgrade and the machine wouldn't start.

Needless to say a "I told you so" with them wimpering over the phoneline resulted in me recovering the PC back to square 1 - thankfully it didn't wipe their transferred data...

They sold the Pro upgrade in the end & have had little hassle since. :)
