My company runs an distance-learning course which teaches people how to use Windows and programs from the MS Office suite.
Students are sent a workbook and have to download some practice files from our website for them to use, as they progress through the workbook.
Just had a phone call from one student who was complaining that she couldn't open the database files because she was getting a message that they were read-only.
My colleague: Whereabouts on your computer did you save the files?
Student: I didn't.
My colleague: Well you must have downloaded them and saved them somewhere for you to be able to try and open them.
Student: I haven't downloaded them.
My colleague: Did someone in our office email them to you instead?
Student: No. I don't know how they got there, but the files just appeared.
My colleague: Did someone else download them for you?
Student: Not to my knowledge.
My colleague: Files can't just appear on your computer.
Student: Well they did!
DOH!! This student is never going to pass this course!!
