I work on the front end in a retail store that sells sporting goods. Part of my job is to answer incoming calls from customers and transfer their calls to the various departments. Some callers just astound me.
Me: Thank you for calling [store name]. How may I direct your call?
Customer: Hi can I have the sporting goods department please?
Me: I'm sorry, you'll need to be more specific.
Customer: It's the department that sells all the equipment.
At this point I arbitrarily pick a department and transfer the call. Sometimes I just don't know what to say to people.
