i worked as a hostess at a restaurant, and on mother's day a woman walks in with a party of 20, expecting to be seated immediately. i told her that she'd have to wait about 1 1/2 hours; she was annoyed but agreed to stay.
she comes up to me 20 minutes later
her: we've already been waiting for 45 minutes
me: actually, i write down at what time each guest arrives here, and it's only been 20 minutes
her: you're wrong
me: ... no. besides, i told you you'd have to wait 1 1/2 hours
her: why do you keep seating all these people that got here after me?
me: because i can seat parties of 3 or 4 people at a booth; you brought 20 people, i'm gonna need at least 5 or 6 open tables to accommodate that many people.
her: well we're not gonna get those tables if you keep seating other people there
me: i'm not seating other people there, i'm seating them in open booths
her: well they can sit down why can't we?
me: because i don't have a booth that fits 20 people...
her: then stop seating other people who got here after we did
me: ... what? but there's no reason for them to be waiting when we have booths for 3-4 people open. i just can't seat you yet because there are so many people in your party, and it's mother's day so we're really busy and it's gonna be a while before 5-6 tables open up so i can push them together.
her: you're getting an attitude with me. i want to talk to your manager.
wtf?? apparently, me trying to explain to her basic math means that i got an attitude...
